Today we celebrated our 54th Convocation at Newman Theological College! We are so proud of our 49 grads this year, 39 of which attended the ceremony in person. It was a full house, and it was so beautiful to see the graduates celebrate with their classmates, professors, friends, and family.
This year, five graduated from the Master of Divinity, two from the Master of Theological Studies, seven from the BA in Catholic Studies and thirty-five from the Master of Religious Education. This is the first graduating class from our newest program, the BA in Catholic Studies, which began in 2020.
The day began with a beautiful mass with Fr. Matthew Hysell as the main presider and concelebrated by Archbishop Emeritus Sylvain Lavoie, Bishop David Motiuk and Fr. Julian Bilyj of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy, along with priests of the formation team of St. Joseph Seminary, including Fr. Sylvain Casavant (Rector), Fr. Andrew Szablewski, Fr. Geoffrey Young, and Fr. Murray Kuemper. Mass was followed by lunch at the college and then the grads dawned their graduation robes and processed to the ceremony.
At the ceremony, each graduate stepped forward to receive their degree, and they were congratulated by President Jason West, Chancellor Mr. Justice Kevin Feehan, and Rev. Archbishop Richard Smith.
Convocation concluded with some social time and a celebratory drink in the courtyard of St. Joseph Seminary.
We proudly congratulate the graduating class of 2023!
